Do you find your self feeling upset or angry because of something someone close to you (or even a stranger) says or does (or maybe didn’t say or do)? We often make assumptions and take personally what others do or say, especially those that are closest to us. This causes us a lot of stress and suffering.
The truth is 90% of what others do or say has nothing to do with you. They have their own “stuff” they are dealing with, their own thoughts and beliefs that make them say something, react, or behave a certain way. If we can remember this we will suffer less, cause ourselves less stress, and no longer feel like a victim to others words and actions.
I highly recommend the book The Four Agreements by one of my favorite authors Don Miguel Ruiz. He explains how not taking things personally (agreement 2), and not making assumptions (agreement 3) can help us feel and live a life with less suffering and stress.
