It’s Time to Heal Our Shame
Shame is something we all carry from our past, but is something we try to usually hide from ourselves and others because it is painful to face and feel.
Holding on to shame can hold us back in all areas of our life– cause illness and disease, negatively effect our relationships with others, hold us back in our business/career, and cut-off our connection with our self and our higher power.
3 things increase shame and keep it stuck in our bodies: secrecy, silence, and judgement (per Brene Brown). I am encouraging you to share your shame. YES, Share it! With someone you trust of course because sharing shame releases it, and begins the process of healing it.
Imagine if you were free from shame…what would you feel like? What actions would you take? Who would you be? Imagine a world free of shame. Whoah! Just imagine…
Take These Steps to Start Healing Shame:
- Write down one past event, situation, or trauma you feel shame about.
- Write down the negative thought or belief that is attached to that event/situation/trauma that is actually causing the emotion of shame (ex. I should have known better, I shouldn’t have let _____ happen).
- Find a safe person to share that shame with (coach, friend, counselor, partner).
